École des métiers de l'aérospatiale de Montréal (ÉMAM)
A key player in aerospace workforce training
Since it first opened its doors, the École des métiers de l'aérospatiale de Montréal (ÉMAM) has achieved the objectives set by Québec’s Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport: to train students with a view to satisfying the needs and expectations of the community and the Québec aerospace industry. The ÉMAM was created in 1994 in response to tremendous growth in the aerospace industry in the Montréal area. With several thousand direct jobs, including operators and manual workers, the ÉMAM has become a key player in workforce training development in Montréal. This vocational training centre applies the innovative concept of the school/plant, the first of its kind in Canada. Recognized for its quality teaching, the ÉMAM offers courses leading to a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) or an Attestation of Vocational Specialization (AVS). The following programs are offered in English:
- Aircraft Electrical Assembly
- Aircraft Structural Assembly
- Aircraft Mechanical Assembly
- Toolmaking
- Machining Techniques
- Precision Sheet Metal Work
- Numerical Control Machine Tool Operation
Since the school provides a learning environment that is largely based on the realities of the industry in which students will eventually be employed, it emphasizes the acquisition of skills, punctuality, regular attendance and occupational health and safety.
In an effort to satisfy the specific requirements of the marketplace, the school also offers customized training, professional development and various types of certification. Throughout the years, the ÉMAM has established a tradition of excellence, making it a key player in aerospace workforce training. The ÉMAM is part of a network of vocational training centres of the Commission scolaire de Montréal (CSDM).
